Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The fifth-ranked CNU softball team suffered its first doubleheader loss of the season, dropping two one-run USA South decisions to Greensboro Saturday, 5-4 and 4-3.
In the first game the Pride took a 5-0 lead. CNU picked up a run in the fifth when
Megan Morris was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Taylor Morgan.
The Captains closed the gap with three in the seventh on an RBI single by
Jessie Atkinson and a two-run single by
Chelsea Mitchell. But that was as close as they would get.
Kristen Nickloy paced CNU with two hits.
In the second game the Captains grabbed a 3-0 on an Atkinson two-run single and two runs that scored on passed balls.
The Pride got its first run in the third and then scored three times in the fifth to grab the lead.
Ashley Mani led CNU with three hits, while Atkinson and
Renee Ashworth had two each.
The Captains are now 20-6 on the year and 4-2 in USA South play.
CNU visits Mary Washington Tuesday at 3 p.m.
