Softball Defeats Central, 9-6, and Mount Union, 5-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL – CNU softball won two games today as they defeated both Central (IA) and Mount Union as part of the Leadoff Classic being played in Panama City Beach, Florida.

CNU jumped out to a four run lead in the first inning of play against Central College with a double from Mary Kennedy, a single from Taylor Morgan an intentional walk of Kristen Nickloy and then a three-run homerun by Chelsea Mitchell. CNU held Central scoreless until the third inning where they allowed two runs. But the Captains came back in the fourth to score five more runs making it 9-2. Central scored one in the sixth and CNU was able to keep them to three in the top of the seventh making the final 9-6.

Kristen Rowe pitched all seven innings and had the win for CNU. Mitchell had two hits, three RBI's and eight put outs in the game. Taylor had two hits in the game with Ashley Mani, Kennedy, Maggie Farris, Jessie Atkinson, Nickloy and Felicia Price each with one.

Big Eighth Inning Lifts CNU over Mount Union

The Captains also had a good first inning against Mount Union, scoring two runs and didn't allow a run until the third inning. Mount Union tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning and both teams scored a run in the fifth to maintain the tie. The sixth and seventh innings were scoreless forcing an extra innings game.

The Captains took a 2-run lead in the top of the eighth as Mary Kennedy started at second base and advanced to third on a ground out to the pitcher by Taylor Morgan. Kennedy scored on a single by Jessie Atkinson who scored off a double by Kristen Nickloy giving the Captains the runs they needed to secure the win.

Elizabeth Holte pitched all eight innings and had the win for the Captains.
