Softball Sweeps Bridgewater

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2   NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University softball team swept a doubleheader Sunday, beating Bridgewater College by scores of 3-0 and 10-4. The Captains improved to 4-0 with the wins at Captains Park on the CNU campus.

CNU never trailed in the doubleheader, jumping to 2-0 leads in the first inning of each game. Senior pitcher Kristen Rowe allowed just two hits in the opener while going the distance and striking out eight. The shutout was Rowe's first win of the season. 

In the nightcap, the Captains posted 13 hits and capitalized on three BC errors resulting in seven unearned runs. Freshman Elizabeth Holte pitched the first five innings to pick up the win and improve to 3-0 on the season. Seniors Taylor Morgan and Kristen Nickloy and juniors Ashley Mani and Jessie Atkinson all had two hits for CNU. Atkinson and Nickloy each knocked in two runs.

The games were the first of the season for Bridgewater.

CNU will head to Salisbury, Maryland, Monday for a 1 pm doubleheader with the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University.
