ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The CNU women's soccer team (6-4-1) earned its third straight shutout victory on Sunday afternoon,  going on the road for a 5-0 victory against St. Mary's College of Maryland (3-5-1). Four different players scored and sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Gumbs (Mastic, N.Y.) earned her fifth shutout of the season to lead CNU past the Seahawks.

Rookie forward Emma O'Reilly (Springfield, Va.) would break through for the Captains early, with the eventual gamewinner in the 7th minute of action. O'Reilly dribbled in from the left side and laced a hard shot to the far post for her third goal of the season.

The Captains would add two more in the first half, as the Seahawks had an own goal in the 22nd minute of action and the team's second-leading scorer, Dani Gunderson (Newport News, Va.) added the third goal of the game in the 42nd minute. Senior Meghan Arbegast (Montclair, Va.) slipped a pass in to Gunderson at the center of the box, who was all alone for the score.

Arbegast would lead the way for CNU with her first goal of the season, while adding an assist for a three-point day. Her goal would come in the 80th minute on a scramble amidst a crowd of defenders for her fourth career tally.

Shelby Walters (San Antonio, Texas) would add the fifth and final score for the Captains in the 83rd minute, on a shot from the top of the box.

CNU would outshoot the Seahawks, 24-9, while taking 11 shots on-goal. Gumbs would make three saves in the clean sheet, while O'Reilly, Kendall Dishaw and Katie Jaywork all had a pair of shots on-frame to lead CNU.

St. Mary's was led by Yvonne Latour, taking three shots with two on-goal. The Seahawks split time between a pair of goalkeepers, as Kelsey Wirtz played the bulk of the game, making five saves and allowing three goals.
