Captains Look to Clinch Top Spot in USA South This Weekend

Women's Soccer Travels for Two Games

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU will look to extend it's program-best winning streak this weekend as they have a chance to clinch the USA South regular season championship with two conference games on the road. The Captains (10-4-1, 6-0-0) will travel to face Mary Baldwin College (2-9-0, 0-5-0) on Saturday at 2 pm and Shenandoah (8-5-3, 3-2-1) on Sunday at 2 pm.

Christopher Newport has won eight straight games, tying a program-high, and are unbeaten in their last nine games dating back to September 22. Led by senior midfielder Sam Ciaravino, the Captains potent offense is scoring nearly three goals per contest (2.93). Ciaravino has scored 11 goals and added three assists for a team-high 25 points.

CNU needs to win one game and finish with at least a tie in the other this weekend to clinch the 2010 USA South regular season championship.

Mary Baldwin's leading scorer Sarah McFarland has 19 points, scoring nine goals and adding an assist. Elizabeth Agnew and Kristen Duncan each have five points for the Fighting Squirrels.

On Sunday, CNU will face Shenandoah, led by Jessi Dennis and Amber Womack. Dennis has scored a team-high seven goals and added one assist for 15 total points; Womack has 12 points with a team-high six assists with three goals on the season.
