NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team ran their winning streak to seven today, with a 3-0 blanking of USA South foe Meredith College (9-4-0, 3-2-0) at home. CNU improved to 9-4-1 overall and remained unbeaten in league play, running their conference record to 5-0 so far this season.

Six different players would factor into the scoring for CNU, as junior Kendall Dishaw led the way with the gamewinner early in the second half. Rookie Emma O'Reilly also had a terrific day, putting six shots on-goal, including a strike in the 59th minute that would put CNU up by a pair.

Dishaw's goal came just 2:11 into the second half, set up by an Elise Haug corner kick. The ball was lifted perfectly into the center of the box to Dishaw's feet. The Meredith keeper just missed the clear and Dishaw was able to easily touch it in for the eventual gamewinning goal.

A little over ten minutes later, O'Reilly would score her fourth goal of the season off an assist from leading scorer Sam Ciaravino. The senior midfielder sent a beautiful through ball to the right side of the box where O'Reilly was alone against the keeper. She sent a hard shot past the sliding GK right into the center of the frame.

The Captains would polish off the victory with an insurance goal in the 88th minute, as sophomore Dani Gunderson received a long through pass from Chelsea Brown, finding herself one-on-one with the Meredith keeper. She lofted a soft shot into the left pocket for her sixth goal this season.

Meredith's Alex Calvert, the league's leading scorer, was held empty against the Captains defense. She managed a team-high four shots, but put just one on-goal. Eliza Evans added three shots, including one on-goal for the Avenging Angels.

The Captains defense, led by sophomore keeper Meghan Gumbs and a starting back line of seniors Megan Conheeney, Britta McDonnell, sophomore Julie Jennings and rookie Alexis Stahlman did a tremendous job shutting out one of the league's top offenses. It was the sixth clean sheet of the year for CNU, as Gumbs posted three saves in the win.

CNU's unbeaten streak is now at eight, going 7-0-1 and outscoring opponents 25-4 in that span. The Captains will return to the field tomorrow for another USA South contest, as they host the Peace Pacers (1-12, 1-3) at 2 pm.
