NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad dropped a 17-10 decision to Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon.

The Captains scored the first two goals of the game before the Generals came back and to score three in a row. CNU tied the score at 3-3 with 22:49 left in the opening half.

WLU scored the next two, but Christopher Newport countered with three straight to lead 6-5 with 9:55 left in the first half. The teams each scored twice in the final nine minutes and the Captains lead 8-7 at the break.

In the second half, Washington & Lee scored the first three goals to take a 10-8 lead with 20:35 left in the game. CNU scored the next two to tie the score at 10-all with 18:22 remaining.

The Generals owned the final 12 minutes, as they out-scored the Captains, 7-0.

Meghan Harkey led Christopher Newport with three goals. Kaitlin Quigley and Alyssa Burke both scored two. Chrissy Rogers, Liz Klemens and Shayna Sargent all had one goal. Katie Doherty finished with three assists.

The Generals out-shot CNU, 32-19. Gayle Robinson finished with 12 saves in the cage.

Washington & Lee improves to 13-5 while the Captains fall to 13-6. CNU returns to action Wednesday in a first round NCAA Tournament match. The bracket is set to be released Sunday night.
