ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Christopher Newport's women's tennis squad upended NC Wesleyan, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon.
In singles, Jamie Galasso defeated Kayla Connor (CNU) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1; Alannah Suchomel (CNU) defeated Leila Heinonen 6-4, 6-4; Kassi Avent (CNU) defeated Joanne Youngblood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Megan Brooks (CNU) defeated Meghan Herd 6-1, 6-1; Dana Burns (CNU) defeated Tija Riley 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5; and Mary Ann Feeney (CNU) defeated Juliana Richardson 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Galasso and Heinonen defeated Connor and Suchomel 8-6; Avent and Brooks (CNU) defeated Herd and Youngblood 8-0 at No. 2; Riley and Richardson defeated Burns and Feeney (CNU) 8-3.
The Bishops fall to 1-9 on the year and 0-4 in USA South action. The Captains improve to 4-4 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.
The Captains return to action Wednesday when they host Elizabeth City on the CNU Courts at 1 pm.
