Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad opened USA South play Saturday with a 21-6 triumph over Greensboro.
CNU scored the first three goals of the game before the Pride got on the board with 24:35 left in the first half. The Captains responded with three straight and GC cut the lead to 6-2 with 16:38 remaining in the opening half. Christopher Newport out-scored the Pride 6-2 over the final 15 minutes of the half to lead 12-4 at the break.
The Captains scored the first eight goals of the second half and cruised to the win.
Liz Klemons paced CNU with five goals and three assists. Chrissy Rogers scored four times and added two assists. Meghan Harkey had four goals and one helper. Kaitlin Quigley and Christine Mike both scored twice and had one assist. Maggie Dean finished with two goals. Shayna Sargent had one goal and two assists. Morgan Layton scored once, Katie Doherty and Jacqui Williar both added one assist.
Christopher Newport out-shot Greensboro, 38-13. Gayle Robinson played 44 minutes and had four saves while Kristen Duca played the final 16 minutes and totaled two saves.
The Pride fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in USA South play. CNU improves to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference action. The Captains return to action Tuesday when they host Cortland St. at 12 pm.
