Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad won its fourth straight Monday, defeating Randolph-Macon, 17-11.
The Captains got on the scoreboard first just over four minutes into the game but the Yellow Jackets stung CNU for four straight to take a 4-1 lead with 19:15 left in the opening half.
Christopher Newport righted the ship and responded with four unanswered of its own to take a 5-4 lead with 10:59 left in the first half. Randolph-Macon countered with two in a row to take a one goal lead, but the Captains scored three in a row to take an 8-6 lead at the break.
CNU scored the first four goals of the second half to take control, leading 12-6 with 23:02 left in the game. RMC never got closer than five goals in the second half.
Katie Doherty paced the Captains with four goals and two assists. Meghan Harkey added three goals and three assists. Kaitlin Quigley scored three times and assisted on another. Alyssa Burke and Liz Klemens both scored twice and had one assist.
Shayna Sargent finished with one goal and one assist, and Mea Arnold and Chrissy Rogers both added one goal each.
Christopher Newport out-shot Randolph-Macon, 40-25. Gayle Robinson finished with eight saves in the cage.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 3-3 with the loss and CNU is not 7-2 on the year. The Captains return to action Wednesday when they host cross-water rival VA Wesleyan at 7 pm.
