LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad upended Lynchburg, 9-7, Thursday night.

The Hornets scored the first goal of the came before CNU came storming back with three straight to lead 3-1 with 17:50 left in the first half. Lynchburg answered with three straight of its own to lead 4-3 with 14:16 left in the opening half.

The two teams traded goals, with LC leading 6-5 at the break.

The Captains came out in the second half and scored the first four goals to lead 9-6 with 10:05 remaining. Lynchburg added a late goal with less than three minutes to go for the final margin.

Shayna Sargent led Christopher Newport with four goals. Mea Arnold, Liz Klemens, and Kaitlin Quigley each scored once and had one assist. Chrissy Rogers and Meghan Harkey both scored once each and Katie Doherty had one assist.

The Hornets out-shot the Captains, 25-22. Gayle Robinson finished with 10 saves in the cage.

LC falls to 5-3 on the year while CNU is now 5-2. The Captains return to action Saturday when they travel to Shenandoah with start time set for 1 pm.
