Men’s Lacrosse Falls 16-7 At Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-7 decision at Catholic Saturday afternoon.

Catholic scored the first two goals of the game before CNU roared back with two of its own to tie the game at 2-2 with 4:38 left in the opening period.

The Cardinals closed the period with two goals and began the second with three more for a 7-2 lead with 3:14 left in the half. The Captains scored with 1:14 left in the first half to cut the lead to 7-3 at the break.

Catholic erupted for six goals in the third period, and held Christopher Newport to just three scores, increasing its lead to 13-6 after three periods of play. CUA scored three more in the fourth and held CNU to just one for the final margin.

Will Perkins, Ryan Merrell and Mike Laycock all scored two goals each. Rob Koster finished with one goal and two assists and Justin King had one helper.

The Cardinals out-shot CNU, 53-27. Jackson Tyler started and made 11 saves in the cage. Matt Miller played the final 9:39 and had four stops.

Catholic improves to 3-2 on the year while Christopher Newport falls to 3-2. The Captains return to action Tuesday when they host Vassar at 7:30 pm.
