Women’s Tennis Drops Two On Spring Break Trip

KISSIMMEE, FL – Christopher Newport's women's tennis squad dropped two matches on its first two days of its annual spring break trip.

The Captains lost 9-0 to Michigan Tech on Monday before falling 9-0 to Washington (MD) College Tuesday morning.

In singles action against Michigan Tech, Silvia Oliveros defeated Reagan Travis (CNU) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Nathalia Rondelli defeated Kayla Connor (CNU) 6-1, 6-1; Samantha Jang-Stewart defeated Lauren Kelly (CNU) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3; Asel Otunchieva defeated Alannah Suchomel 6-0, 6-0; Danielle Stoll defeated Kassi Avent (CNU) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Caitlin Hartley upended Megan Brooks (CNU) 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Oliveros and Rondelli defeated Travis and Kelly 8-5; Jang-Stewart and Otunchieva defeated Connor and Suchomel 8-3 at No. 2; and Hartley and Stoll defeated Avent and Brooks 8-2.

In doubles action against Washington (MD), Brittany Marshall and Jordan Finnegan defeated Kelly and Travis (CNU) 8-2 at No. 1; Carrie Palmer and Gabie Batista defeated Sucomel and Connor 8-4; Kate Barston and Mary Kelley dropped Avent and Brooks (CNU) at No. 3, 8-0.

In singles, Marshall defeated Travis 6-1, 6-0; Finnegan defeated Connor 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2; Palmer defeated Kelly (CNU) 7-6 (7-4), 6-2; Kelley defeated Suchomel (CNU) 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4; Barston defeated Avent (CNU) 6-1, 6-1; and Batista defeated Brooks 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

Michigan Tech is now 10-6, Washington College is 3-0 and the Captains fall to 0-2.
