NORFOLK, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad, ranked 24th in the country, dropped its season opener, 7-0, at Division I Old Dominion Sunday afternoon.
In doubles, Aleksandr Seleznev and Tobias Fanselow defeated Eric Shulman and Lorenzo Sison (CNU) 8-2 at No. 1; Matt Fawcett and Ben Marks defeated Martin Brown and Dylan Young (CNU) 8-2.; and Yakov Diskin and Alex Funkhouser defeated John Briag and Chris Yost (CNU) 8-1 at No. 3.
Fanselow defeated Shulman (CNU) 6-3, 6-1; Diskin defeated Sison (CNU) 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2; Fawcett defeated Brown (CNU) 6-0, 6-2; Funkhouser defeated Young (CNU) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4; Krzysztof Muzalewski defeated Braig (CNU) 6-2, 6-1 and Marks defeated Thomas Whaling (CNU) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Monarchs, ranked 74th in the country, improve to 10-5 on the year while the Captains are now 0-1. Christopher Newport returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater with start time set for 5 pm.
