Mary Washington Comes From Behind To Defeat Women's Lacrosse, 18-15

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad let a late lead disappear as Mary Washington came back to defeat the Captains, 18-15, Saturday afternoon.

 

The Captains led by four, 14-10, with 8:27 left and then again by three, 15-12, with 6:49 to go, but saw the Eagles score six of the next nine goals to come from behind.

 

UMW went ahead 16-15 and CNU wasted no time in tying the score with 3:28 to play in the game. The Eagles however were able to find the back of the cage twice in the final three minutes for the win.

 

Meghan Harkey paced Christopher Newport with four goals and two assists. Brooke Falck also scored four times and assisted on another. Katie Doherty scored twice and totaled four helpers while Kaitlin Quigley finished with three goals and one assist.

 

Natalie Gilbert had two goals and one assist and Lisa Thomson scored once.

 

Mary Washington out-shot the Captains, 33-30. Gayle Robinson played the first half in goal and allowed six goals while making three saves. Rachel Giljam played the second half, suffering the loss, making five saves.

 

The Eagles are now 8-5 while CNU falls to 7-5. Christopher Newport returns to action Sunday when they host Roanoke at 2 pm.
