Women's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season With 21-8 Win Over Sewanee

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad finished the regular season on a high note with a 21-8 win over visiting Sewanee Saturday afternoon.

 

The Tigers scored the first goal just 42 seconds into the start of the game but the Captains responded by reeling off 14 straight and took a 16-2 lead at the break.

 

Senior Kylene Jennings, who was honored before the start of the game, led CNU with four goals and one assist. Dani Guessford scored three times as Kaitlin Quigley, Chrissy Rogers and Meghan Harkey all scored twice.

 

Mea Arnold and Bonnie Hansen both had one goal and one assist. Lisa Thomson, Alyssa Burke, Amy Suddarth, Christine Mike, Dara Gruber and Brooke Falcke all scored once.

 

Katie Doherty finished with three assists, Natalie Gilbert and Jacqui Williar both finished with two helpers and Morgan Layton and Shayna Sargent added one assist each.

 

Christopher Newport out-shot Sewanee, 29-15. Rachel Giljam started and made no saves. Gayle Robinson picked up the win and had three saves and Kristen Duca also saw action and made two stops.

 

The Tigers fall to 5-8 and the Captains improve to 13-5. The 13 wins breaks the school record for wins in a season, set last year. CNU will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Wednesday, May 7. Site, time and opponent will be determined next weekend.
