Baseball Falls At No. 5 Salisbury, 8-3

SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision at fifth-ranked Salisbury Saturday afternoon.

 

CNU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on RBI singles by Ryan McDougal and Matt McDaniel.

 

The Sea Gulls scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. Salisbury would push across two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings.

 

The Captains scored one more in the top of the eighth when Mike Giarrizzi scored on a double play.

 

Kyle Baumann started and last 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, walking five and striking out three. He falls to 3-3 on the year. Chris Malvagna tossed three innings in relief and allowed four runs. Austin Lindley got the last two outs, walking one and striking out one.

 

Christopher Newport wraps up its regular season schedule Sunday as they host York (PA) for two games beginning at 12 pm. The Sea Gulls improve to 37-2 while the Captains are now 27-11.
