BURLINGTON, NC – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad advanced to the USA South championship Saturday with a 23-1 win over Ferrum.

The Captains scored five goals in the first four minutes and jetted out to a 13-0 halftime lead. CNU out-scored the Panthers, 10-1 in the second half.

Fifteen different players score for Christopher Newport. Katilin Quigley led the way with three goals and one assist. Katie Doherty finished with two goals and three assist. Lisa Thomson scored twice and assisted on two others. Shayna Shargent had two goals and one assist while Meghan Harkey finished with one goal and three helpers.

Chrissy Rogers, Alyssa Burke and Bonnie Hansen all scored twice. Morgan Layton had one goal and one assist. Kelsie Dodd, Kylene Jennings, Mea Arnold, Dara Gruber, Christine Mike, and Jacqui Williar all scored once.

The Captains out-shot the Panthers, 33-5. Rachel Giljam played the first half and made two saves to pick up the win. Gayle Robinson played the second half and did not record a save.

Ferrum concludes the year 4-9. Christopher Newport improves to 11-5. The Captains advance to the USA South Championship game tomorrow at 12 pm.
