Women's Lacrosse Drops Lynchburg, 17-7

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad won its final game before the USA South Tournament begins, dispatching Lynchburg, 17-7, Sunday afternoon.

 

The score was tied 3-3 with 22:27 left in the opening half when the Captains reeled off 10 consecutive goals to lead 13-3 at the half.

 

Both squads scored four times in the second stanza.

 

Meghan Harkey led CNU with four goals and two assists. Christine Mike scored three times and assisted on another. Kylene Jennings and Kaitlin Quigley both finished with two scores.

 

Katie Doherty added a goal and three assists while Bonnie Hansen had a goal and two helpers. Natalie Gilbert scored once and totaled one assist. Chrissy Rodgers, Jacqui Williar and Shayna Sargent all scored once.

 

Brooke Falck had two assists and Lisa Thomson added one helper.

 

Christopher Newport out-shot the Hornets, 35-27. Rachel Giljam had 14 saves in the cage for the Captains.

 

Lynchburg falls to 7-7 while CNU improves to 10-5. Christopher Newport, the top-seed in this coming week's USA South Tournament, will meet the winner of the No. 4 Ferrum/No.5 Shenandoah game Friday afternoon at 1 pm in Burlington, NC.
