Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball squad dropped a 4-2 decision at Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon.
The Captains struck first when Mike Giarrizzi stole third and scored on an errant throw.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third inning off of starter David Acosta.
CNU cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth on Michael Romett's RBI double that scored Parker Neal. Randolph-Macon pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth.
Romett finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Giarrizzi, Alex Owen, and Trae Bailey each had one hit for Christopher Newport.
Acosta lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking and striking out three. Josh Brinkman and Kevin Moreland combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.
RMC improves to 18-11 on the year while the Captains fall to 20-8. CNU hits the road this weekend for its final regular season conference weekend. They will play at Ferrum Saturday and Sunday with first pitch both days set for 1 pm.
