Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad allowed 13 first half goals and dropped a 17-14 decision at Catholic Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored twice early to jump on top before the Captains fired back with four straight goals to lead 4-2 with 22:04 left in the first.
CUA then went on a spurt where it scored 11 of the game's next 12 goals and led at halftime, 13-6.
In the second half, CNU tried to come back, but the deficit was just too much as they out-scored Catholic, 8-4.
Brooke Falck led Christopher Newport with four goals. Katie Doherty scored three times and assisted on another. Meghan Harkey also contributed three scores. Shayna Sargent scored once and finished with two assists. Kaitlin Quigey totaled two scores, and Lisa Thomson had one goal.
Natalie Gilbert and Bonnie Hansen both finished with one assist.
The Cardinals out-shot the Captains, 37-27. Gayle Robinson finished with 13 saves in the cage for CNU.
CUA improves to 6-4 on the year while Christopher Newport falls to 5-4. CNU returns to action Sunday as they head to USA South foe, Ferrum, with start time set for 1 pm.
