Baseball Falls 9-6 To NC Wesleyan

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team dropped a 9-6 decision to USA South rival NC Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at Captains Park.

 

The score was tied 1-1 going into the top of the eighth when the Bishops scored four times. The Captains cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the inning but NC Wesleyan responded for four more in the top of the ninth.

 

Christopher Newport mounted a come-back, they scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but could not muster enough to come back.

 

Steve Millerleile threw very well in his first conference start. Through seven innings, the southpaw allowed just one run. He went back out for the eighth inning and fatigue set in. He allowed all four runs the Bishops scored in the inning on three hits. He went 7 1/3 innings, allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits, walked five and struck out seven.

 

Trae Bailey led the offensive attack for the Captains. The junior shortstop went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Ryan McDougal was 2-for-5 and Parker Neal finished 2-for-4.

 

The Bishops improve to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the USA South. Christopher Newport falls to 7-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

 

CNU returns to action Friday when they host VA State at 3 pm.
