Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad, coming off a two week lay-off, rolled to a 23-1 win over USA South rival Shenandoah Sunday at Captains Field.
The Captains scored its first goal just 33 seconds into the start of the game and quickly led 9-0 with 20:26 left in the first half. CNU led 18-0 at the break.
In the second half, Christopher Newport out-scored the Hornets 5-1. SU's only goal came on a free-position shot with 6:57 left in the game.
Bonnie Hansen came off the bench to score four goals and assist on two others. Meghan Harkey, Lisa Thomson, and Natalie Gilbert each scored three times for the Captains.
Christine Mike and Chrissy Rogers both scored twice. Katie Doherty and Jacque Williar each scored once and assisted on two others. Shayna Sargent and Dani Guessford both scored a goal and added an assist.
Mea Arnold and Dara Gruber both scored once while Kaitlin Quigley and Kylene Jennings both finished with two assists. Amy Suddarth and Brooke Falck totaled one assist apiece.
CNU out-shot Shenandoah, 38-7. Gayle Robinson played the first half in goal for the Captains and made three stops. Rachel Giljam finished with 1 stop while playing the entire second half.
Christopher Newport improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the USA South. The Hornets fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. CNU returns to action Tuesday when they host Medaille at 4 pm.
