Women's Lacrosse Upends Greensboro, 15-7

GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad won its first USA South game of the year, 15-7, at Greensboro Saturday morning.

 

The Pride scored the first two goals of the game before the Captains roared back with three unanswered to take a 3-2 lead. The score was tied 5-5 at the break.

 

In the second half, CNU scored the first three goals to take an 8-5 lead with 21:22 left in the game. Christopher Newport increased its lead to as many as eight, 14-6, with two minutes to go and held on for the win.

 

Lisa Thomson and Natalie Gilbert led the Captains with three goals each. Katie Doherty finished with two goals and two assists while Bonnie Hansen scored twice and assisted on another. Morgan Layton, Christine Mike, Shayna Sargent, Brooke Falcke and Kylene Jennings each tallied one goal. Alyssa Burke and Danielle Guessford each had one assist.

 

CNU out-shot Greensboro, 40-23. Gayle Robinson totaled 14 saves in goal for the Captains.

 

GC falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the USA South. Christopher Newport evens its record at 1-1 on the year and is now 1-0 in conference action.

 

CNU returns to the field Sunday when they travel to Guilford with start time set for 2 pm.
