GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's men's basketball squad rolled to an 88-64 win at Greensboro Friday night.
The win was the fourth straight for the Captains as they now move into third place in the USA South standings.
CNU finished with five players in double figures.
Christopher Newport led from the very beginning as they scored the first seven points and took a 46-30 lead into the break at halftime.
The Captains continued their hot shooting into the second half, when they led by 20 for the majority of the second half, and by as many as 33 points.
CNU held the Pride to just 26-of-60 (43%) shooting from the field, 8-of-19 (42%) from behind the arc and just 4-of-12 (33%) from the free throw line. Jason Sharpe was the only GC player to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points.
Christopher Newport couldn't miss, finishing 34-of-57 (60%) from the field, 10-of-17 (59%) from long range and 10-of-14 (71%) from the charity stripe. Thomas Whinnett paced CNU with 20 points and seven rebounds. Davon Barton added 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Conley Taylor had 14 points and five assists, Kenny Reid contributed 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Theo Baker totaled 10 ponts.
Greensboro falls to 11-13 overall and 5-6 in the USA South. CNU improves to 10-14 on the year and 6-5 in conference action. The Captains conclude the regular season Saturday when they travel to Methodist with tip-off set for 4 pm.
