Bailey Drives In Six, Leads Baseball Past Randolph-Macon, 11-7

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's Trae Bailey drove in six runs to help the Captains past Randolph-Macon, 11-7, Wednesday afternoon at Captains Park.

 

The Captains struck first for four runs in the bottom of the first. Bailey drove in the first of two runs with a double to left-centerfield and Parker Neal followed four batters later with a double of his own to drive in two more.

 

CNU scored one in the third and Bailey drove his second home run of the year, a three-run shot to left, in the bottom of the fourth.

 

In the home half of the fifth, Eric Cole hit his first home run of the year, a two-run shot down the leftfield line. Cole's home run put Christopher Newport ahead, 10-2.

 

The Captains final run came in the bottom of the sixth when Bailey plated Alex Owen on an infield single.

 

Randolph-Macon scored twice in the fourth and sixth innings and pushed across three in the top of the eighth.

 

Brandon Berry picked up his first win of the year by going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out two. David Accosta pitched the sixth and gave up two runs and Chris Malvagna closed it out by tossing the final three innings, allowing three runs on three hits, walked two and struck out three.

 

Bailey finished 4-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored. Cole finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Ryan McDougal was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Parker Neal finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and Owen was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Travis Medina and Ryan Norris each finished with one hit in the win.

 

The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-5 on the year while CNU improves to 4-1. The Captains return to action Saturday when they host Villa Julie with first pitch set for 12 pm.
