NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad lost 19-5 in its season opener to No. 3 Salisbury Tuesday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls scored the first five goals of the game before the Captains got on the board when Lisa Thomson scored on an assist from Katie Doherty with 12:24 left in the opening half.

Salisbury scored seven more times in the first half to lead, 12-1, at the break.

In the second half, CNU scored four times while holding Salisbury to just seven scores. The Sea Gulls had just defeated Hood, 24-0, on Saturday.

Five different players scored for the Captains. Thomson, Meghan Harkey, Doherty, Shayna Sargent and Brooke Falcke each had one goal for CNU.

Doherty finished with three assists and Thomson had one.

SU out-shot the Captains, 32-21. Gayle Robinson had three saves in goal for CNU.

Salisbury is now 2-0 on the year while Christopher Newport falls to 0-1. The Captains hit the road Saturday as they travel to Greensboro with start time set for 11 am.
