Football Rolls Past Greensboro, 40-7

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's football team put up 422 yards of total offense en route to a 40-7 win over USA South foe Greensboro Saturday in front of 5,016 fans at POMOCO Stadium.

 

CNU totaled 233 yards on the ground and another 189 through the air.

 

Jay Graham has been fantastic on field goals this year. He already owns the school record for the longest field goal made and Saturday, he set a school record by booting four field goals. He connected on attempts from 22, 38, 30 and 36 yards.

 

Tunde Ogun scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and one receiving. Ogun had a 2-yard and 4-yard touchdown runs and also had a 5-yard touchdown reception.

 

Tony Spradlin accounted for the final score, a 34-yard touchdown reception.

 

Ogun finished with 71 yards on the ground on 18 attempts. He caught two passes for six yards. Cory Legister ran for 63 yards on 10 rushes.

 

Matt Long finished 4-fo-8 for 84 yards. Keith Gaines was 5-of-7 for 96 yards passing and Antonio Epps was 1-of-3 for nine yards.

 

The CNU defense held Greensboro to 191 yards of total offense, intercepted two passes, forced five fumbles, recovering two.

 

GC falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the USA South. The Captains are now 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference play. CNU heads to Maryville (TN) next Saturday with kick-off set for 2 pm.
