GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's women's soccer team remained undefeated in USA South play with a 4-1 win at Greensboro Saturday afternoon.
The Captains took a 1-0 lead 28th minute on Marica Betonry's goal from in close with Logan Boon assisting.
CNU scored three times in the second half with Stefani Brown recording the eventual game-winner in the 48th minute after taking a pass from Amanda Peters after a Pride turnover. Emily Chesbro scored unassisted in the 52nd minute, scoring from about 35 yards out to put Christopher Newport ahead, 3-0.
The only Greensboro goal came in the 78th minute off the foot of Ashley Cabral. The Captains added another insurance goal less than two minutes later when Peters found the back of the net with Carolyn Calhoun assisting.
CNU out-shot the Pride, 14-10. Erin Wojtkun had six saves between the pipes for the Captains.
Christopher Newport improves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in USA South play. Greensboro falls to 6-2-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference action.
The Captains return to action next Saturday when they host nationally ranked Washington & Lee at 3 pm.
