FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport's women's soccer squad dropped a 1-0 decision to top-seed Methodist in the championship of the USA South Tournament Saturday.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie at the half. The Monarchs scored the game-winner in the 79th minute when Chrystal Bradley took a shot and found the back of the net.
The Captains had several opportunities to either take the lead or tie the score late in the game.
Methodist out-shot CNU, 17-16. Dineen Sampson had nine saves in goal.
CNU's Amanda Peters, Sam Ciaravino and Emily Chesbro were all named to the All-Tournament squad.
The Monarchs advance to the NCAA Tournament with a record of 17-4. CNU concludes the year 14-7.
