Volleyball Sweeps Meredith, Advances To USA South Tournament Semifinals

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball team won its 30th match of the year by sweeping Meredith 3-0 Tuesday night.

 

Meredith advanced to the quarterfinals by sweeping Peace, 3-0, in a match played at 5 pm.

 

The Captains won by scores of 30-7, 30-15 and 30-12.

 

Ellen Koch paced CNU with 12 kills on 21 attempts with no errors for a .571 hitting percentage. Allie Wolfe added 10 kills and seven digs.

 

Brittany Collins contributed 36 assists, seven aces and seven digs. Christie Kirby posted 12 digs.

 

Meredith finishes the year 8-25. Christopher Newport improves to 30-6. It's the fourth time in program history that the Captains have won 30 matches in a season and the third time under Head Coach Lindsay Birch.

 

CNU returns to action Friday when they play NC Wesleyan in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament at 7:30 pm in the Freeman Center. Greensboro will take on Averett at 5 pm in the first semifinal contest. The championship match will be Saturday at 1 pm.
