DANVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball team swept Ferrum and Averett Friday evening and finished the regular season undefeated in USA South play and earned the right to host the USA South Conference Tournament Final Four next weekend.
The Captains opened the final USA South Tri-Match of the year by defeating Ferrum by scores of 30-12, 30-15 and 30-20.
Ellen Koch paced CNU with 10 kills. Allie Wolfe finished with eight kills and 10 digs. Brittany Collins added 33 assists, three aces and six digs.
Against Averett, Christopher Newport won by scores of 30-20, 30-20 and 30-26.
Koch once again led the way for the Captains with 17 kills on 37 assists with one error for a .432 hitting percentage. Wolfe posted 14 kills and nine digs. Collins added 41 assists and nine digs while Christie Kirby added 10 digs.
It's the first time any team has gone undefeated in conference play since Christopher Newport went 14-0 in 2001. It's also just the second time in program history the Captains have went undefeated during the regular season in conference action.
CNU improves to 27-6 overall and is 18-0 in conference action. The Captains return to action Saturday when they travel to VA Wesleyan for a tri-match. Christopher Newport will play Salisbury at 3 pm and VA Wesleyan at 5 pm to conclude its regular season schedule.
