Volleyball Sweeps Shenandoah, Collins Has Her Number 13 Retired

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport volleyball player Brittany Collins became just the second player in program history to have her jersey retired before the match and then she helped lead her team to a sweep of Shenandoah on Senior Night.

 

Collins, who was the program's first All-American, is the school's all-time leader in assists and service aces. She's currently seventh all-time in NCAA history in career aces. Collins' number 13 will hang in the rafters of the Freeman Center next to the first jersey number retired, current Head Coach Lindsay Birch.

 

CNU defeated the Hornets by scores of 30-14, 30-9, and 30-8.

 

Ellen Koch led the way with nine kills on 18 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Liz Bush, Sarah Brown and Meghan Puckli each finished with six kills. Collins finished with 30 assists and seven digs.

 

As a team, the Captains finished with 42 kills on 77 attempts with just three errors for a hitting percentage of .506.

 

Christopher Newport improves to 25-6 overall and 16-0 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Friday when they travel to Danville, VA to take on Ferrum at 5:30 pm and Averett at 7:30 pm.
