NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's soccer team posted its second straight shutout in a 5-0 win over USA South rival Ferrum Sunday afternoon.
CNU led 2-0 at the half on goals by Marica Betoney and Emily Chesbro. Chesbro's goal came on a header off of Amanda Peters' corner kick. Sam Ciaravino assisted on Betoney's goal.
In the second half, Chesbro started the scoring in 51st minute as the shot home a loose ball in front of the net. In the 64th minute, Megan Conheeney scored her fourth of the year of a shot from the left side that hit the inside of the right post for the score. Becca Grady had the assist. Jenn Campbell finished the scoring in the 82nd minute unassisted as she scored off a deflection.
The Captains out-shot the Panthers, 20-0. Dineen Sampson posted her third shutout of the year without making a save.
Ferrum falls to 2-9-1 on the year and 1-4 in the USA South. CNU improves to 9-5 on the year and 6-0 in conference play.
The Captains return to action next Saturday as they travel to Methodist with kick-off set for 12 pm.
