NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Two members of the Christopher Newport University football squad were honored on Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following their play in Saturday's 21-0 victory at Susquehanna University. Senior Noah Martin was selected Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Braylon Addy was tabbed the league's Offensive Rookie of the Week.

Martin, a senior defensive back from Spotsylvania, Va., led the CNU defense Saturday with nine tackles and also contributed a fumble recovery and an interception, his second of the season. Martin has led the Captains in tackles in each of the last two seasons, and helped blank a Susquehanna team that was ranked 14th in the nation and was averaging 37.7 points per game heading into the game in Selinsgrove, Pa. Martin has been a first team All-Conference performer in the NJAC the last two seasons.

Addy, a freshman wide receiver from Bristow, Va., led the squad in rushing (70 yards on two attempts) and receiving (115 yards on three catches) and scored both offensive touchdowns for the Captains. He opened the scoring just 1:44 into the game with his 49-yard scoring run, and later scored less than two minutes into the third quarter on the 61-yard scoring strike from quarterback Brandon Pena. Addy also scored two times in CNU's previous game, a 37-7 victory at Western Connecticut State on September 12th. He was also named the NJAC's Offensive Rookie of the Week following that win. 

Paul Crowley's squad is now ranked 14th in the country in the new poll released on Monday by D3football.com, up three spots from last week's ranking of 17th. The Captains are slotted 13th, up from 14th a week ago, in the new weekly poll from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

The Captains, who are now 3-0 after going 10-0 in the regular season last year and 7-0 in the NJAC, will open conference play this Saturday afternoon vs. William Paterson University at TowneBank Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game will be a part of Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend celebrations on the CNU campus. William Paterson is 0-3 to start the 2026 season.
