Caroline Alger Named C2C Softball Pitcher of the Week for Fourth Consecutive Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University sophomore pitcher Caroline Alger notched her fourth straight Pitcher of the Week honor Monday from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C).

Alger, from Staunton, Va., upped her record to 6-0 on the year by earning the victory on Sunday in a 5-4 win over Salisbury University in the opening game of a doubleheader at Captains Park. Alger threw a complete game and allowed just one run over the first six innings. She ended Salisbury's comeback bid in the seventh inning with a strikeout, her fourth of the game, to give the Captains their seventh straight victory.

Since returning from injury a month ago, Alger has gone 5-0 and has thrown two complete-game shutouts. She now has an earned run average of 1.64 for the season.

The Captains concluded the regular season on Sunday with a 27-11 final record, and are now preparing for the 2026 C2C Tournament, which will be held at Captains Park on Friday. Salisbury will be the second seed in the three-team, single elimination event, and will play third-seeded Mary Washington on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to play top-seeded Christopher Newport in the championship game, which will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
