NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University won both games of a softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. The Captains won the opener by a 6-0 score, and then took the nightcap by a 4-1 margin.
Keith Parr's team is now 26-10, and the Captains have won their last six games. The Eagles of UMW fell to 16-24, and have now lost their last 12 games.
The Captains never trailed in the Saturday sweep, jumping to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the opener, and a 4-0 edge in the sixth frame of game two. The Eagles didn't get on the scoreboard until plating a single run in the bottom of the sixth of the nightcap for their only run of the day.
Christopher Newport hit two home runs in the opener to account for three of the team's six runs. Junior catcher
Natalie Quinlan opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the second inning, her eighth of the season. Sophomore
Alexah Gordon ended the first game scoring with an inside-the-park home run in the seventh, her first of the season, to complete the 6-0 victory. Junior

Alger, who upped her record to 5-0, threw her second straight complete game shutout in the first game, holding the Eagles to just three hits while striking out eight. Alger has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week the last two weeks in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference.
