Brookelyn Morrison and Gabby Saia Honored as All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine

SPARKS, Md. -- Two members of the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team hauled in All-American honors from USA Lacrosse Magazine as Brookelyn Morrison and Gabby Saia were both celebrated by the national publication on Wednesday afternoon.

Morrison became the first Captain to earn first-team accolades from USA Lacrosse Magazine after picking up top plaudits for her performance on the midfield unit. She also became the second three-time honoree in program history, joining former standout Kelsey Winters, who was honored four times from 2021-24. Previously, Morrison was an honorable mention recipient during the past two seasons.

Accompanying Morrison on the All-American squad, Saia garnered a third-team citation for her work this spring. With that award, she joined longtime standout Emma Jackson as the only defenders in school history to secure All-American nods.

Christopher Newport has now produced multiple All-Americans during each of the past five seasons.

Flashing her versatility with another well-rounded campaign, Morrison has been a dynamic contributor in all facets of the game. So far this spring, the senior star has already established a new single-season school record with 124 draw controls. Her 52 caused turnovers are also the second-most in program history, just two shy of matching her own record set in 2024.

Meanwhile, Morrison has also established new career-highs with 46 goals, 30 assists, and 76 points. Incredibly, she is currently one of only two players from any level of the NCAA to have at least 50 points, 50 takeaways, and 100 draw controls this season.

A starter in all 21 games, Morrison has posted at least one point in 19 of her appearances, including four goals and five assists against Meredith in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on May 9. Her nine total points marked the highest amount by a Captain in the national playoffs in school history. Overall, she boasts seven hat-tricks and 10 total multi-goal eruptions this spring, including six darts against Mary Washington in the league playoffs on April 29.

Along with her offensive exploits, Morrison has notched multiple takeaways in 13 of her outings this spring, including eight strips in the opener against Berry on February 13. That matched the single-game school record. Meanwhile, her 12 draw controls against Lynchburg on March 7 equaled the eighth-highest total by a Captain.

Aided by her work this year, Morrison has already set Christopher Newport's all-time career records with 365 draw controls and 172 caused turnovers. Her 164 ground balls are also tied for the most in program history, while her 229 points are eighth on the school leaderboard.

A centerpiece on CNU's outstanding defensive unit, Saia has been a dominant presence on the back end throughout her junior campaign. The third-year standout has 48 caused turnovers, which ranks as the third-highest total in program history. It also stands as the most by a defender in program lore.

Consistently effective, Saia has caused at least one turnover in 19 of her 21 appearances while securing multiple takeaways in 11 contests. Among her finest efforts of the year, she had seven caused turnovers against Lynchburg on March 7, which equaled the fourth-most in a single game in school history.

In addition to her historic work against the Hornets, Saia also had five caused turnovers in the semifinals of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament against Mary Washington on April 29. That equaled the third-most by a Captain in a playoff game. For her postseason performance, she secured a spot on the All-Tournament team for the third straight year.

Along with her 48 takeaways, Saia has also established a new career-high with 39 ground balls this spring. She has scooped up at least one roller in 19 games, including a season-high four during the second round of the NCAA Tournament at No. 11 Washington and Lee on May 10. She has also remained an integral piece of CNU's transition unit, which currently ranks in the top-20 nationally with a stellar .860 clearing percentage.

In her career, Saia currently stands 10th in program history with 77 caused turnovers. Her 1.51 takeaways-per-game rate is also the second-highest by a Captain.

Saia, Morrison, and the rest of their teammates will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when Christopher Newport battles No. 6 Denison in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.
