Brookelyn Morrison Named IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week Following Record-Setting Start to NCAA Tournament

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- After opening the NCAA Tournament with a pair of historic efforts, Christopher Newport women's lacrosse star Brookelyn Morrison was honored as the National Offensive Player of the Week by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.

The prestigious award is the third national weekly honor of the year for Morrison. Previously, she was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week on March 24 and the USA Lacrosse National Player of the Week on February 17.

Remarkably, Morrison became the first Captain in school history to be named both the National Offensive Player of the Week and the National Defensive Player of the Week in the same season. She also became the first player from any level of the NCAA to accomplish that feat during the 2026 campaign.

After wrapping up a memorable regular season, Morrison continued her record-breaking run in the NCAA Tournament. Guiding the Captains to a pair of wins last weekend, she led the squad with 13 points after collecting five goals and eight assists. She also contributed a team-high 14 draw controls while adding three caused turnovers for good measure.

Kicking off her run on Saturday against Meredith, the fourth-year phenom picked apart the Avenging Angels during a 17-6 win at Washington and Lee's Alston Parker Watt Field. Adding her name to the history books, Morrison finished the contest with nine points. That marked the highest total in an NCAA Tournament game in school history, topping Kelsey Winters' eight-point eruption against Johnson & Wales on May 13, 2023.

During the contest, she deposited four goals while establishing a new career-high with five assists. Her five helpers also equaled the most by a Captain in the national playoffs, while her eight draw controls marked the second-highest total in the NCAA Tournament.

Among her efforts against Meredith, Morrison recorded four points in the opening quarter as the Captains bolted out to a fast 6-1 lead. Later, on the way to a double-digit advantage, she had a goal and an assist during each of the middle two quarters before capping off the festivities with an eight-meter missile in the final stanza.

Just 24 hours later, the Ashburn, Virginia native returned to the field with another electric effort during Christopher Newport's 8-7 overtime victory against No. 11 Washington and Lee. After Morrison connected on a game-tying goal during a free position attempt in the second period, the Generals slipped out to a 7-4 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Refusing to go down quietly, Morrison helped anchor CNU's comeback bid. Tormenting the opposition, she assisted on back-to-back goals to open the fourth quarter. Then, after the Captains knotted the score at seven, the senior took over in the extra session.

In overtime, Morrison teamed up with Gabby Saia to block an eight-meter shot on Washington and Lee's first offensive stand. Then, on the other side of the field, she threaded a pinpoint pass from the left corner to Brooklynn Peterson, who sank the game-winning strike in the 63rd minute to lock up the victory.

Overall, Morrison finished Sunday's thriller with four points, including an assist on three of the team's final four goals. She also collected a pair of ground balls, including the 164th of her career. That tied former legend Monica Evans for the most in school history.

So far this year, Morrison boasts a career-high 46 goals, 30 assists, and 76 points. Meanwhile, her 124 draw controls have already set a new single-season school record, while her 52 caused turnovers are two shy of matching her own program standard set in 2024. Putting her well-rounded campaign into perspective, she is one of only two players from any level of the NCAA to have at least 100 draws, 50 caused turnovers, and 50 points this season.

In her career, the two-time All-American owns the school's all-time record for draw controls (365) and caused turnovers (172). She also sits eighth on the program's leaderboard with 229 career points and 153 goals.

Morrison and the rest of the Captains will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when Christopher Newport squares off with No. 6 Denison in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.
