Live Broadcast // Live Stats

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
After opening Coastal Lacrosse Conference action with back-to-back road bouts last week, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a non-league showdown with Roanoke at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the midweek match-up, CNU sits at 13-2 on the season, including 8-0 at home. Meanwhile, Roanoke is 8-3 with a 5-2 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Christopher Newport will provide a live broadcast of the contest with Andy McGregor and Jake Myers calling all of the action. Live stats will also be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Returning home to Jennings Family Stadium, CNU has won its last 15 home games dating back to March 26, 2025. That stands as the third-longest active streak in the NCAA. Rivier currently has a 17-game home winning streak, while Tufts has ripped off 16 consecutive wins at home.

In addition to ranking among the top active runs in the country, Christopher Newport's current home winning streak is also the second-longest in program history. Previously, the squad collected 16 straight victories at Captains Turf Field from April 19, 2016 through March 24, 2018.

Anchoring a potent attack, reigning Coastal Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week Jamie Smith currently leads the NCAA with 67 goals, which is seven more than any other collegiate lacrosse player has scored this season. It also stands as the third-highest total in program history, trailing only his own 84-goal outburst in 2025 and fellow All-American Dylan Rice's 72-goal showcase in 2022.

While Smith has been scoring in bunches, Kevin Miller ranks second in the NCAA with 55 assists, while his younger brother, Ryan Miller, is tied for 14th with 31 helpers. Kevin's total is the second-highest in school history, trailing only his own 81-assist masterpiece from last spring. Additionally, he currently has 158 helpers in his career, just three shy of matching the all-time program record of 161 set by Coby Auslander from 2020-24.

Meanwhile, Ryan Miller's total is the highest by a freshman in program history, breaking the previous standard of 29 assists set by former standout Jackson Deal during his debut campaign in 2018. Additionally, his 31 helpers are tied for the most by a freshman in the NCAA this season. Incidentally, he is tied with fellow in-state star Brendan Millon, who has dished out 31 assists for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Along with his work as a facilitator, Ryan Miller also has 27 goals this season. That is one shy of equaling his brother for the fourth-most by a first-year player in school history. Kevin Miller had 28 during his debut campaign in 2024, while Brady Altobello is third on the freshman scoring charts with 29 goals in 2019. Dylan Rice (56) and Britt Hoover (37) sit atop that list.

Aided by the work of the high-volume contributors, Christopher Newport currently ranks 19th in the NCAA in scoring offense with a 15.27 goals-per-game average.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end of the field, the Captains sit eighth in the nation with a 13.60 takeaways-per-game average. On an individual level, Brett Kelley registered his 30th caused turnover of the year against Kean on Saturday. He became just the 12th player in program history to register at least 30 strips in a single campaign, joining a list of luminaries including current teammates AJ Rosacker (2024), Mark Davison (2025), and Colin DeGrassi (2025).

Additionally, Rosacker picked up his 93rd career caused turnover with a takeaway on Saturday. That moved him past former standout Teddy Pekalski for the second-highest total by a primary LSM in program history. Perennial All-American Phoenix Hines set the standard with 187 strips from 2018-22.

Along with their work on the back side against the Cougars on Saturday, several defensive standouts also made offensive contributions during the win. Kelley, Garrett Bralley, Daniel Siaton, and Brendan Medearis all scored while starring in transition during the victory. Aided by those efforts, CNU comes into Wednesday's game ranked sixth in the nation with a .904 clearing percentage.

So far this season, Roanoke also ranks among the national leaders in a variety of categories. The Maroons are 19th in the NCAA in shooting percentage (.334), 28th in scoring offense (14.45 goals-per-game), and 29th in takeaways-per-game (11.73). On an individual level, Ike Dutton is averaging 2.27 caused turnovers per contest, which is the 45th-best rate in the country.

Wednesday's game will be Roanoke's fourth test against a nationally-ranked opponent this season. Thus far, the Maroons have dropped a 16-9 decision in a non-conference bout against No. 13 Dickinson before adding a pair of league setbacks. During Old Dominion Athletic Conference action, the squad fell to No. 3 Lynchburg, 17-13, and No. 16 Washington and Lee, 14-10.

Roanoke boasts a pair of players who earned USILA Preseason All-American honors this year. Julian Kammerman and Weston Hammond were both second-team selections. So far, Kammerman leads the Maroons with 35 points, including 26 goals. Meanwhile, Hammond has 12 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls to go along with seven points.

In nine previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 7-2 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains picked up a 16-7 win in Salem. During that game, Smith led the victors with seven points, including six goals. Additionally, Mason Bellinger hauled in 19 saves, and Grant Giunchi went 8-for-10 on faceoffs.

After Wednesday, CNU will wrap up the regular season on April 18 at 3 p.m. with a home bout against No. 7 Salisbury.
