Captains Open Spring Season at St. Mary's Team Race Interconference

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team opened up the spring schedule this weekend with a tenth-place finish at the St. Mary's Team Race Interconference.

Stanford University made the cross-country trek to capture the win in the event by sweeping all nine matchups.

For Christopher Newport, six Captains made the trip with Aston Atherton, Josh Bendura, Grace Watlington, Braden Silveria, Hannah Louise Roethel, and Berend Van der Meer sailing in the event.

In the race against Cornell, a CNU boat came across the line first, but the Big Red won the matchup by capturing a 2-3-5 finish. CNU was also narrowly defeated in bouts against George Washington, with a 3-4-6 effort and Rhode Island, crossing the finish line in order 3-4-5.

The Captains will return to action this weekend at the Graham Hall Team Race hosted by the US Naval Academy.
