Captains Finish Fifth at 10th Annual Sailpack Oriental Intercollegiate

ORIENTAL, N.C. -- Christopher Newport sailing finished fifth out of 19 teams at the 10th Annual Sailpack Oriental Intercollegiate in North Carolina this weekend. The Captains finished with 108 points over 12 completed races in A and B division sailing. 

The Captains won three races with two coming in A division and one in B division. CNU scored 56 points in A division to finish fourth and the B division boat finished with 52 points, finishing fifth. 

Sailing in A division for the Captains was Josh Bendura and Hannah Louise Roethel. The tandem recorded just one finish outside of the top ten and had a tremendous five-race run in the middle of the regatta by finishing 2-2-2-1-1. The B division boat was sailed by Grace Watlington and Berend Van der Meer a the CNU duo rolled to 12 finishes inside the top seven. After winning the second race, Watlington and Van der Meer also had a strong finish with a pair of second place finishes in the last six races. 

The host Wolfpack from NC State won the event with 65 points. Queens (77 pts), Jacksonville (89 pts), and UC San Diego (102 pts) rounded out the quartet of teams ahead of CNU.
