WILLIAM AND MARY SPRING OPEN
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Capturing the first win of the Spring season, the Christopher Newport sailing team finished with 65 points after 10 races in A Division and B Division sailing at the William and Mary Spring Open. The Captains edged out UVa by ten points to earn the win in the nine-team regatta.Â
Christopher Newport took second place in both A division and B division. The A division boat was sailed by
Noah Hubbard and
Griffin Donahoe and the duo finished with 31 points. That was just one point behind the Cavaliers for the A Division win and enough to sail by the host Tribe by four points. In B division sailing,
Walter Roou and
Jacob Fleming paired up for a 34-point showing. Maryland won B division with 17 points while CNU finished ahead of George Washington University for third by four points.Â
The A division pair finished with three wins and opened up the regatta with a red-hot 1-2-1-2 start. Hubbard and Donahoe finished out of the top five only once in ten completed races. In B division sailing, Roou and Fleming recorded four runner-up finishes and nine top five showings as well.Â

AZALEA BOWL REGATTA
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. -- Taking on a talented fleet of 18 teams, the Christopher Newport sailing team captured a top-five finish at the 2026 Azalea Bowl Regatta hosted by UNC Wilmington and NC State University. The Captains were led by a dominant effort from the A division boat, finishing second with 48 points behind only champion Jacksonville.Â
As a team, the Captains finished with 112 total points including 48 points in A division and 64 points in B division. Jacksonville won the event with 75 points while NC State (79 pts) and Roger Williams (83 pts) finished ahead of CNU while the Captains edged out Michigan (127 pts) for fourth place.Â
The A division sailors were
Josh Bendura and Braden Silveria and the CNU tandem finished strong with a 1-1-1-7-1 effort over the last five races. The Captains secured five bullets in all and recorded six top-five efforts in the 11 completed races.Â
In B division, Aston Atheron and
Grace Watlington skippered with Berend Van Der Meer for a sixth-place finish in division with 64 points. Atherton and Van Der Meer started 5-5-6 before Watlington closed out the event in the remaining eight races. She helped CNU post a 3-2-4 run in races 6-8 as the Captains climbed the leaderboard.Â
CNU is scheduled to return to the wer on April 4-5 at the Prosser Trophy in New York and at the Sail Pack Oriental in Raleigh.Â
