JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The Christopher Newport women's golf team closed out the second round at the Jekyll Island Collegiate at Great Dunes tied for 17th with a 41-over performance on day two. Senior
Julia Pelletier (+14) led the way in the second round with a six-over 78.
The Captains are sitting at +79 through the first 36 holes with a 655 (326-329) with one round left to play on Sunday.
Behind Pelletier, the Captains got a nine-over 81 from
Maddie Cameron, a 12-over 84 by
Taylor Davis and matching 86's from
Sara McCaskill and
Katie Watson.
Pelletier opened the round with a par before carding two more pars over the next six holes. She caught fire on 16, sinking a birdie on the 246-yard par four. She went birdie-par-birdie-birdie to get back to one-over par after 11 holes. The Gatineau, Quebec native finished her round with a fourth birdie on the 431-yard par four eighth.
Cameron sank a pair of birdies, also finishing with a four on No. 8. The freshman also had a three on No. 16 and finished her second round with six pars. Davis had nine pars to lead all CNU players and shaved two strokes off her opening round score. McCaskill birdied No. 8 and notched seven pars while Watson closed out the day with eight pars.
The Captains will return to the course on Sunday for the third and final round in the 54-hole tournament.
