Captains Will Play in Elite 8 Thursday vs. St. Thomas (Texas) at 1 pm in Fort Wayne, Indiana

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University will play St. Thomas University (Texas) in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The NCAA announced the tip off time on Saturday evening following the completion of the Sweet 16 round.

The Captains, now 24-5, advanced on Friday night by beating Randolph-Macon College, 59-57, in Ashland, Va. This will be the fourth trip to the National Quarterfinals for the Captains in the last five years, and it will be the first meeting ever with the Celts of UST, who are 29-1 and will be appearing in the Elite 8 for the first time ever.

CNU and St. Thomas will play in the first of four games at War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne on Thursday. In the 3:30 p.m. game, Emory University will play Illinois Wesleyan University. The third game of the day is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. as Tufts University will play Trinity College of Connecticut, and the final game is scheduled to tip off at 9:00 p.m. as the University of Mary Washington will take on the University of Chicago.

Thursday's winners will advance to meet on Saturday in the National Semifinals, also at Fort Wayne's War Memorial Coliseum.

CNU will be making its third trip to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for NCAA play, and the first since winning the National Championship in 2023. The Captains now have an all-time record of 40-27 in NCAA Tournament games, and Christopher Newport is 22-4 in its last 26 tourney games dating back to the 2018-19 season.
