NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University and Randolph-Macon College square off in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament Friday night at Crenshaw Gymnasium on the R-MC campus in Ashland, Va. Tip off time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game is sold out.

The Captains, 23-5 and ranked 15th in the country, will take on the Yellow Jackets for the second time this season. Randolph-Macon, ranked fourth in the nation and 27-3 overall, defeated the Captains at the Freeman Center on November 12th, 71-65. Last weekend to open play in the 64-team tournament, the Captains advanced with victories at the Freeman Center over Stevens (75-62) and Washington & Jefferson (90-61). Randolph-Macon also hosted and prevailed over North Carolina Wesleyan (76-52) and TCNJ (68-45) at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

CNU and Randolph-Macon have both won NCAA Championships in recent years, as the Yellow Jackets captured the 2022 tournament title, and the Captains won it all in 2023. The schools have played twice before head-to-head in the NCAA Tournament, splitting a pair of games in the opening round of the tourney in 1996 and 1999 at Ratcliffe Gymnasium on the CNU campus. The series with Randolph-Macon dates back to 1977, and includes a total of 34 head-to-head clashes. The first nine were played while Randolph-Macon was a Division II program, and all nine games were won by the Yellow Jackets. Since R-MC moved into Division III, and schools have met 25 times, and the Yellow Jackets hold a 13-12 edge in the series.

Friday's game will be the 67th NCAA Tournament game in program history, and the Captains are now 39-27 all-time in the tourney. Christopher Newport is appearing in its tenth straight NCAA Tournament, the longest consecutive tournament streak in the nation currently. Since 2016, this is the eighth CNU appearance in the Sweet 16, and Christopher Newport is one of only two schools in the nation at any level to appear in eight Sweet 16's during that time (Division 1 Gonzaga being the other).

The game is a complete sell out, and no tickets will be available at Crenshaw Gymnasium Friday night. Fans attending the game are advised to park in two nearby lots located at 400 N. Center Street in Ashland and 100 W. Patrick Street in Ashland.

All Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show Friday will begin at 6:35 p.m.. A link is provided at the top of this story to access the live CNU Radio broadcast, as well as the live video broadcast produced by Randolph-Macon. Links are also provided at the top of this story to access the live stats, as well as the complete CNU game notes package and a link to view the entire bracket.

The winner of the game will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the Elite 8 and National Semifinal Rounds next Thursday and Saturday, March 19th and 21st. The remaining two schools will then play for the National Championship on April 5th in Indianapolis, Indiana.
