Natalie Quinlan was named the league's Player of the Week and sophomore
Caroline Alger was selected the Pitcher of the Week.
Quinlan and Alger both opened the new year on a high note in a Christopher Newport sweep at Methodist University on Saturday, February 14th. Quinlan, from Manassas, Va., hit two home runs and went three-for-five in the doubleheader vs. the Monarchs.She hit a pair of two-run home runs in the opening game, and then delivered an RBI single in the nightcap in her only official at bat of the game. Quinlan ended the day with five runs batted in as the tenth-ranked Captains jumped to a 2-0 start to the season.Â
Alger, a sophomore from Staunton, Va., made her Captains debut and retired all 14 batters she faced in the opening game at Methodist. She earned the victory by striking out five in 4.2 innings of work as CNU opened the new season with the sweep. Alger is the younger sister of
Kate Alger, who pitched for the Captains the last four years.
Keith Parr's squad returns to action this Saturday, hosting Moravian University at Captains Park. The Captains and Greyhounds will play a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon as CNU opens its 2026 home schedule.
