LEESBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team is hitting the road for a neutral site matchup against Dickinson College (6-5-2) on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Captains (8-2-1) will kick off against the Red Devils at RavenTek Park in Leesburg, Virginia.
Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com for the action as the Captains take on Dickinson for just the third time in program history. The first came in Newport News back in 1995 when a high-scoring affair awarded the Red Devils the first win, 5-3. The two teams then did not face off again for 30 years until last season in a much more low-scoring game as the game ended in a scoreless draw at Captains Field.
CNU faced off against a Dickinson squad that when on to reach the NCAA Division III National Quarterfinals and finished the season with an unbeaten 16-0-8 overall record. This season, Dickinson stumbled out of the gate against a challenging schedule but has registered a 2-1-2 record over the last five games heading into Wednesday night's battle. The Captains are coming off a 5-0 win against Regent on Saturday that improved the team to 8-2-1 overall.
This season, Christopher Newport has scored multiple goals in all eight of their wins and feature an offense that ranks 52nd nationally with 2.36 goals scored per game. Leading that offense is senior
Riley Usher with six goals and three assists for 15 total points at the top of the Captains' attack. Fellow senior
Drew McWhinney has added four goals and one assist for nine points while leading the team with a pair of game-winning goals.
The CNU defense has been formidable again this season allowing just 11 goals in 10 games so far. Senior
Matt Yates has started every game in goal and boasts a 1.14 goals-against average. The back line in front of them features
Jackson Carlyon, Carson Friedein,
Declan Karney, and
Yazan Yaghmmour among other reserves who have helped bolster the stingy defense.
Dickinson also features an impressive defense that is holding opponents to just 1.38 goals-against on average as Gavin Marr has led the way between the pipes. Marr has a 1.33 GAA and three shutouts to his name while facing 109 total shots this season. Offensively, Timi Omoniwa and Maxim Temple have led the attack with nine and seven points, respectively.
Following the trip to Northern Virginia, the Captains will return home for the penultimate regular season home game of 2026 on Saturday, October 17. CNU will host Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington at 6:00 p.m. this weekend.
