ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team traveled to Maryland this weekend to participate in the Chesapeake Invitational regatta hosted by the United States Naval Academy. The Captains finished out the three-division event in sixth place with 473 total points.
The Captains finished 16-17-18 with the A division boat finishing first as
Josh Bendura sailed with
Hannah Louise Roethel. Next, the C division team of
Aston Atherton and Berend van der Meer finished. Then, the B division boat, which saw six races from
Grace Watlington and
Jon Matney along with one rotation with
Noah Hubbard and
Griffin Donahoe, finished third.
All three boats managed a 13th-place finish among the ten completed races to highlight the weekend sailing for CNU. Atherton and van der Meer crossed 13th in the first race; the A division tandem posted their high finish in race number five, and; one race later, Watlington and Matney crossed the line 13th.
The A division boat finished with 152 points followed by the C division pair with 159 points. Merely three points behind, the B division group finished with 162 total points
