GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Powered by an impressive front nine, Christopher Newport senior
Julia Pelletier carded a career-low 75 (+3) on Sunday to help propel the CNU women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Lynn Schweizer Invitational. The Captains (+53) wrapped up the 36-hole tournament with a 633 (315-318) and notched a top-five score on both days.
Pelletier finished 13th on the individual leaderboard with an 11-over 156 (81-75). She trimmed two strokes off of her career low as she piled up par after par. She sank par on 10 of her first 11 holes and 12 of the first 14. By the end of the round she snuck in two more par putts and added a birdie three on the 322-yard par four 18th to close out the historic performance.
Rookie
Gabi McGehee added a seven-over 79 on day two and tied for 18th overall with a 159 (80-79). Fellow freshman was one stroke behind her classmate with a 160 (78-82) and finished the weekend at 15-over par.
Katie Watson chipped in her second-day score with a 10-over 82 and tied
Taylor Davis for 22nd on the individual leaderboard with a 16-over 161. Watson finished 79-82 while Davis was 78-83.
All five CNU players finished in the top-25 of the 72-player field. As a team, Randolph-Macon (+19) pulled away for a 26-stroke victory over the host Big Red from Denison University (+45). CNU was just eight strokes behind Denison with a 53-over performance.
On day two, Watson had 10 pars for the Captains while McGehee added nine with a birdie on the 326-yard par four 1st hole. Davis knocked in eight pars and Cameron had seven, including three straight to start her round.
The Captains matched their finest finish at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational after capturing a fourth-place finish in the same event last year. Next up, CNU will travel to the Transylvania Fall Invitational on September 7-8.
